Check with the owner to see if all the updates have been done (fuel rails, I believe, were one item), and how many hours are on the engine. If the engine is lower hours and has been well maintained, it should be a good purchase.

If the engine is very high hours and hasn't been well maintained by a Merc certified mechanic, I'd say no. You can have a Merc certified mechanic put the engine on the computer to confirm. I'd do that before buying.
