I was looking to do the same thing a couple of years ago and was told by someone I would have to do what Propster described. I agree w Bnelson...that would have taken me FOREVER with around 1000 waypoints. I did some searching on the internet and I found a free gps data program. I believe it may have been the gps data manager from lowrance, but I'm not exactly sure. Anyhow, I downloaded the program and uploaded all of my waypoints. Once my waypoints were in the program, I saved them/named them by regions (hayward area, Eagle River, N. IL , etc...).
Since they were saved by region I would only upload whatever area I was going to then rename/resave that area with the date when I was done fishing that area (What bnelson described earlier). It took a little bit to figure out the program and save by different region, but I think I got all (900) of my waypoints organized in about 4 1/2 hours. (I think I had to upload all waypoints and delete a lot , BUT it was MUCH easier doing it on a computer instead of the unit.)

I think this is what I used...

Good Luck!
