I'm a Power Pole guy. And I'll say right up front I'm a MinnKota guy. I prefer the PP over the MinnKota due to the simplicity of the PP. I've seen the Talon in action, and they work...usually. They're based on electronics and they have several built in "modes" that are supposed to take the place of the PP's Wave Pak. One of the issues I've seen is that if the spike on the Talon isn't perfectly straight and you try to retract it, it'll just beep at you until it's veritcal. It's designed that way because of the internal mechanism; it has to be straight. I've also talked to a buddy who had the internal mechanism come apart and fail to retract. But that's the only incidencs of that that I've heard. My point is, I like the PP's "up or down" operation and bulletproof design. No modes, no circuit boards, no internal parts. Just a pump, four bolts, two wires, and up or down. Not to mention proven.

The Talons also had an issue with the early hardware for attaching it to the bracket. It's been rectified with new hardware from MK, but you have to request it and make sure you have it; it's on you to make sure it's installed, not the dealer and not MK. There's been a couple of Talons fall off on the highway due to loose hardware.

I'm a MK guy all the way. I have a Terrova that's been flawless. And I'm not even saying the Talon is a poor product. I just think the PP is a better design and more simple and reliable than the Talon from what I've seen. (And yes, I've seen them in person before anyone jumps on this; so I do think I'm qualified to post an honest opinion.)

As far as shallow water anchors in general, I love them. Alot of guys think they're a toy or a fad, but I've got fish in the boat thanks to my "fad."
