When I redid the carpet in my boat I got a tub of some actual "marine" carpet adhesive from Fleet Farm and spread it on with a putty knife. After 3 years the carpet still looks great and is not lifting at all.
This is the way I did it: (I'm no professional but it did turn out very well)
1. Rough cut the carpet to fit the area, leaving 2-4" of extra material around the edges.
2. Fold back the carpet and begin glueing in the center.
3. Working your way out to the edges, be sure to really push the carpet as if you were stretching it in a room.
4. Stop gluing about 6" from the edge.
5. Now that the carpet is pretty well stretched, go along and trim the excess 2-4" off the carpet edges for the perfect fit.
(Obviously use shop vac to clean up the fibers after trimming. You don't want all that under your carpet.)
6. Liberally apply glue to the remaining outer 6" of the glass and glue down the carpet.

It was a very tedious job but I took my time and it turned out great. BTW, I used a razor scraper like you have there and removed all of the glue before putting down new carpet. Scraped it nice and clean and then wiped the surface down with some hot water.
