I had an 01 Yamaha OX66 VMAX 200. I'm not sure if they put these or 225's on the 620's, but mine had a 200 (I have a 225 620 hull). Great motors all the way. Very reliable and dependable. The HPDI's followed the OX66 (not sure what year), but you'll see them as "Series 2" VMAX. They're strong motors as well, but did have some oiler issues to start with, but they were addressed. Also good, strong motors. I could get into the particulars of these motors should you get one, but for our purposes here, they're good motors and they're what you'll be seeing from Yamaha during these years.

One line of motors you may see are the Evinrude Ficht's....avoid them. They had all kinds of issues. It's been said that only the 150-175 hp were affected, and not the 200/225's. And before anyone jumps on me, yes, I know there's guys thave run their original Ficht since 01 without a problem, but by and large that line of motors had issues from not running right to outright blowing up. But regardless, what does happen is you have the word "Ficht" on your motor and resale is for crap. When I bought my boat, I hand found mine with a 200 VMAX and one same year and price, but had a 225 Ficht on it...I passed on the extra 25 hp just to avoid the Ficht.

As for Mercs, I'm not a Merc guy, but I know some Opti's had a fuel rail problem in like 01-02 or something, but that's as far as I know about that. Other than Opti's are good motors, I'll let a Merc guy chime in on that one.
