Not knowing the total design of the interior, so question for you to help solidify the box... Where that opening ends on the aft-side, I am assuming there is a flat surface (vertical surface) to the left and to the right of the box you would build?
If that is the case, you could probably use some sort of latch, cross bolt, etc (something like what is used to hold bathroom stalls shut from years ago) that would allow you to hold the box in place with little extra hardware.
