Location: Stevens Point, WI		Joe, any units prior to the HDS units that use an external puck, you will draw amperage from your battery to your puck. So, if your boat sits for any decent period of time, the gps puck can draw your battery down. It'll be a slow draw, but over time it can draw it down to where the battery voltage would affect your starting battery.
