There's motors that have blown and motors that will blow. Period.

I'm not an Evinrude or BRP guy, but it comes down to the same advice I'd give for any motor- warrantee rocks, but you've got to have local customer support to make it worthwhile. If you've got an authorized, knowledgable mechanic nearby, you should be good to go. It's like the Fichts. They were known as being pieces of crap in the mid range hp's. Yet, some guys are running them trouble free ten years later. Not saying the E-Tecs are known as crap, they're not. But I've heard of problems, and I've heard of fans loyal to the death.

I'm a Yamaha guy all the way, but if the price is right, you've got a decent amount of warrantee left, and someone local to service it and provide advice/sales/service, I'd not be too afraid of it.
