Hiya,

First of all, What brand transducer do you have? Depending on the design of the transducer, there may be different things that can be done to help minimize the tail and still get good reading...

Much of mounting the transducer is dependent on where you mount it too. So..if you can supply that as well, and on what kind of boat, others may be able to help as well.

If it is on an aluminum riveted hull, it very well could be that you have turbulent water running around it, which will disrupt the signal....
