I would agree with cimusky on a lot of his thoughts to put into it but would like to add a couple more things.

What type of structure do you fish? If it is shallow with rocks or stumps I would recommend a cable driven trolling motor as you can work it particially out of the water lifting the motor part of the way out. If it is deeper water then the elcetronic is good.

Also how is your experience on them before? Are you use to being able to turn on a dime or adjusting yourself a touch slower.

i do agree to get the longest shaft and the biggest thrust you can afford. As far as brand I have always been partial to the Minn Kota myself. Motor Guide makes some units also.
