Steve I don't want to beat this to death but when you say you could turn a 25 tempest with a 250 V was this on a 620 and what was your rpm with a light load?Lugging a Verado will cause all kinds of problems . If you are not winding them up over 6 grand every now n then ,they can start to "make oil" .
Lugging a pro xs will cause excessive carbon /soot to form and can lead to all kinds of problems like fouled plugs , stuck rings/ ring jacking , leading to power head failure.
I feel my boats dialed in pretty well and the only time it gets to 65 is when it's behind my truck
