I'm sure there's some bracket-mounted speakers out there somewhere, where you only have to drill three or four holes for the bracket or something.

I say bite the bullet and drill the holes for the flush mounted speakers. You can also drill and then Dremel out the hold if need be as well. It's your boat, but I think the clean flush-mount would look better and clutter the boat much less than speakers mounted on a bracket or otherwise not flush mounted. Don't fear the drill!! I used to cringe too when drilling into my boat, but it done right, it's not a big deal at all. JMO
