To the best of my knowledge, O2 sensors fail from carbon build up, or just plain-old age; the fuel pumps are a separate issue. The fuel pumps fail from the diapragms getting small pin holes in them. They need to be replaced every couple of years, and you change all three of them as a set. Takes about an hour.
