Location: Eau Claire, WI | Hey guys. I've got a 21 tempest plus on mine NOT 23. I get 46 gps on it @ about 5K on the tach. Thats a full tank, two/three guys and gear. So ya you lose some top end being 25 horses down but 46 is still plenty fast for me and I love this rig, great to fish out of and has good karma. LOL. I plan to stick with this boat for some time to come.
I'd like to try a 19 on mine (if anyone has a 19P tempest plus, please let me know) to see what its like. My hope being that I'd get a little more hole shot and maybe an extra couple mph by moving the revs more into the powerband. I would think at least I'd gain a little more holeshot and move the revs up a bit.
Bass boat central dot com is a good place to go for talking tech. When I was looking for props, many recommended the 19 or 21 tempest plus. I found a good deal on a 21 so I bought it after testing first with a 21 from Mark H. Interesting to note - not all props are the same! The numbers may match but performance can be different. When I tested w/ Mark's 21, I got a few more revs than I did with the prop I purchased. No earth shattering difference but still there was one.
The original prop when I bought the boat was a 15P hi 5....lots of holeshot, no top end. My rig is a '99 692 w/ 150 opti. I also have a 15 hp kicker on it. If someone is looking for a 15P hi 5, I'd trade for that 19P tempest I'm looking for...
So RJ, I'd say you're doing pretty good. I'd try a 21 tempest plus on it to see how it goes but your top end is right in there for what those boats can do. I will defer to the guys running 175s over my 150 but that would be my advice, try it out and see. From there, if you are going to experiment then go 19 then 23 in that order and compare notes.
I think the 690/692 came from the factory w/ 21 lasers but this is a fact worth verifying as I might have it wrong.
Mike, how was your trip? shoot me an email! hope the gods paid you back after that engine debacle.
BN, what prop you running on that Suzi?
