i ran a 1760 tiller with a 70hp Suzuki on it and i could only get that relatively small motor to run it down to 2mph under the right conditions. with a 90 or 115 it would probably be more difficult to go that slow without some additional braking, plus you'd not have the power of a larger motor when you needed it such as running in the bigger waters you describe.

for that reason i agree with the others, put a full size 150hp main motor on it with a 9.9 4-stroke kicker for trolling. it might cost you a bit more up front, but if you plan to keep this boat for a long time, doing it right the first time will make you the happiest.
