Did he decarb the O2 sensor as well? Yamaha VMAX's are greaet (I have one) but they've got two mechanical issues that arise. One is the three fuel pumps on the right hand side, the other is the O2 sensor. Both can be problematic. If you're smoking, it could be alot of things, but if you've recently been decarbed, well try it again because it never hurts, it sounds like you may be running rich and smoking. Usually fuel pumps are sympomatic with a rough running engine or an engine losing rpms. Simple smoking and a hard start....check and clean the O2 sensor, and check your plugs. How do they look? This will tell us alot.
