^this is why you should avoid like the plauge the 6.4 Ford or the 6.7 Dodge or 2007 or newer Chevy/GMC diesels. DPF technology is not fully worked out, and at this point in time it kills the mileage. basically, diesels aren't worth it unless you actually have to pull over 10000 lbs. they may even be better by the 09 models, but i haven't checked yet.

i'd have to check, but i think 3.73 is the tallest gear ratio you can get with the 6.0. smaller #s = better mpg. with a 4.10 you'd be turning higher RPMs on the highway, which means you're burning more fuel. i also have the 5.9 Cummins, and the worst i've ever gotten under any condition is 14. welldriller...check your mileage by hand...my last tank the computer showed 25mpg and it was actually 19.5. maybe they have better software in an 07 vs. 03, but in my overall experience the trip computer is completely worthless for those numbers.

back on subject, the 6.0 will have plenty of power to tow your boat. the transmission will hold up just fine. any half ton these days will do the job. what you need to sit down and ask yourself is 'what will i be doing the majority of the time with this truck?' you'll see a much bigger difference in mpg towing/not with a gas engine than a diesel. gas is cheaper, and if you don't have another car, the gasser wouldn't be a bad choice. if it only serves as a tow vehicle, then just stick with another diesel, since you're used to it already.
