I have 240's on my boat also. While at the steep ramp on Lake X last time, I unloaded my boat poorly and busted off the plastic end cap to my Motor Guide which sliced open the insulation and nicked a few of the wires from bow transducer to the bow unit. Occassionally (before I fixed it) the wires would short on eachother and the unit would give me a message that it lost connection to the transducer. If you are not getting that message, I doubt the problem is with your transducer.

BTW both of my 240's will occassionally give me false readings of 1200ft+ while displaying a moving bottom.
