Matt- I'd guess the unit is going to simulator mode because it doesn't see a transducer signal, i.e., as if it was hooked up in a in-store demo. These new digital (computer controlled) devices sometimes have automatic software stuff that most people never even know about, i.e., like sensing if it has a transducer attached or not.... no signal -> go to simulator mode..... Most likely either the cable to the transducer or the transducer itself is bad. Probably best to test it at the lake- Just hook up new transducer & cable & dangle the transducer in the water if it works, i.e., gives a depth reading close to the console unit reading = install the new transducer & cable.
