Which is 2" too big for my garage and I had to rent a storage unit.

This may sound ridiculous, but if you have your garage sheet rocked, you can cut out a small rectangle in between two studs, pull the insulation out,and take some thin paneling and finish the little cubby hole and paint it match the color of your walls. That will give you about 3-4 inches to maybe stick the prop/cavity plate back far enough to get you into the garage. How do I know?,I did it myself to get a boat into a garage to keep it out of the weather or wasting money on storage. And it's easy to fix if your selling the house like i did.
