a full-size rod locker is definitely worth having.

i'm uncomfortable leaving my rods laying out on the deck when traveling/trailering. it is too easy for someone to walk by and steal one if they're out in the open when i stop to eat or get gas, plus my boat insurance rider for gear (like most) requires gear to be locked up if you're going to get reimbursed in case of theft - ie., there has to be signs of break-in. when trailering i lock mine in the center rod locker of my Tuffy X190 and i'm worry free.

the tubes also hold the rods individually separate so that they're not the rubbing and bouncing which scratches the rods and reels.
