Location: Passaic, NJ - Upper French River, ON		My 2004 1850 deck hatches in the rear are "soft" too, if you mean slightly bent, but I attribute that to my 265lbs on them. I just bent them back and they're in good shape.
They could have welded some stiffeners on the underside to make them stronger, that and the fact my gas gauge sticks on just about every fill up, and the decals just fall off with any contact, are my only complaints.
