For your boat you'd probably be fine, but I'm not sure you'd be happy when towing the popup camper. My friend used to have a V6 pathfinder around the same year, and he hated the lack of power. I test drove an Xterra with V6 a few years ago and was really disappointed in the sluggishness; Nissan even added a supercharger to that engine to make it better. I guess they were disappointed too, since they replaced the 3 liters with the 4 liter in 2005. I haven't driven the 4 liter yet, but the specs are impressive.

For a small SUV that tows, you might look at the S-10 Blazers with the 4.3 L Vortec. I know they have issues, but that engine is very strong and there is no shortage of Chevys around. I hear good things about the Chevy Trailblazers with the inline 6, but haven't driven one. I have looked into older V6 4-runners before, and didn't feel the 3.4 liter was up to the challenge. There was a lot of difference between those and the Tacoma I had at the time.

Hope that helps a little.

Eric
