Actually, Tuffy used to offer the same 3 bank charger OEM.

The pattern you saw is a diagnostic, if I remember correctly, meaning the unit 'reset'. Shooting from the hip here, but I had a couple and saw that a couple times.
I now use a regular timed charger plugged into a Marinco system on that boat, and it's been flawless.

I had a well known brand two bank on my 16 footer. Last summer, I noticed a breaker in my house had tripped. Even though the unit advertised it would kick out if there was ever a short, it didn't...and I had a fire in the boat that thankfully didn't get enough oxygen and burned out.

Maybe I've had a run of bad luck, but no more onboards for me. I also like the fact I can see the charger and see that it's working. Fits in a storage compartment, and it's easy to route the wiring if one wants too.

That said, on board chargers are popular, and there are quite a few rigs that come standard with them. Like any other product, some folks will have little or no trouble, some have alot, and some absolutely none. I can tell you the company promptly replaced the chargers that were problematic.
