Which prop are they recommending? The Lazer II? That is a pretty decent prop, and may work very well on the combination. I had a Lazer II 23" Pitch on my 1700 Angler with 135 Opti. Great hole shot, and good top end with a moderate load. The biggest problem I found was it would blow out if I trimmed up too far. Not enough bow lift.

I recommend you find a Merc dealer with a prop demo program, and try them until you find the one you feel performs the best.
