I probably did get back via PM.

My experience is that the internal works nearly as good as the external. Once I got my LMS-334 sent in, and returned, it works flawlessly. That said, I have it networked to my X-11 on the console and the receiver, which is on the front cap.

The resaon I say it works nearly as well, is because when I am in my garage, the 334 on internal receiver sees just as many satelites, and locks in just as quickly as the X-111 with the external. And this is with the big doors closed! I get 4-5 satellites that way, through the windows.

As for not working better on the ocean or great lakes, that is simply not true. There are so many satellites up there, you are never that far away from them. You only need 3 to lock on to. I ususally have 10 or more with good enough signals to lock, with either receiver.

You mention Garmin. I think the Garmins had an edge in internal receivers until last year or so. I think they are pretty even now. Either way, I would not shy away from a unit with an internal receiver.
