I've got the 60in. on a Sylvan 17' boat. The shorter shaft is too short for a normal boat I think. Yoy just end up running the motor with the head slightly higher and not all the way down. The long shaft is really nice for windy days, no more of that prop coming out of the water.

Don't mind the cable since I had a standard AP before the Genesis. As far as the foot control I could never run the heel/toe controls on any other trolling motor so I just use the quick adjust buttons on the genisis to turn it. I really don't think the Genny gets in the way any more than other trolling motors it's just a concern if you can fit 60" of shaft in the bow without hitting the windshield. One other thing and a slight downside is that since the shaft is thicker it is a little harder to over when moving from spot to spot.
