Last weekend I almost got stranded out on a big lake due to my 2004 Johnson 90hp 2-stroke dying on me. It would start at first and as soon as I tried to accelerate it would then die. It then quickly deteriorated into dying a few seconds after starting while just idling, I then started getting an alarm. After many attempts to trouble shoot the basics I had to limp back to the launch with my bow mount. I took my Tuffy to a very reputable dealer and was told the VRO needed to be replaced. I searched this online and it seems there are quite a few horror stories about this being replaced when it wasn't the actual problem. The repair will be $500 so I started to get a little concerned. Just looking for a bit of advice or input about the VRO and how it would relate to what was occuring. Thanks.
