Paul, I fish from a ranger620vs thats a big heavy boat,there is a 9,9four stroke on the back and there has not been a time when I needed more speed. Dont know the exact top end of my 9.9 but there has always been lots of room left. Have tried to troll at higher speeds on my pond,none higher than 5mph. This year will try faster. I think a 6 will do you fine.
