If the battery has a bad cell, it will read less than 12.6 volts, fully charged. If the plates are sulfated, or the electrolyte is diluted, it will not have any reserve, even though it says charged. Take it back, and they'll find it is bad when they load test it.

I had to buy a new starting battery this weekend. It wouldn't start the big Merc after running the livewell and locator for 4 hours. That's never been a problem before this year. Battery was a new Interstate.
