Subject: Starting problems


I boat a used boat three years ago, and it has never started on the first try. It usually takes three or four attempts before it will turn over. Then it takes a couple more attempts just to keep it running. Could this be a problem with the spark plugs?

Once it starts for the first time each day, it continues to start and run well for the rest of the day.

Is this a fixable problem, or is it just an old motor? I have a 1987 Evinrude 40 HP tiller.
