Seeing as how most power blocks at the console get the power from the starting battery, anything that would happen by connecting to the battery, would happen when connected at the console. Not to worry. Connecting directly to the battery is the preferred method. As mentioned, use an inline fuse. Most sonars come with a holder and fuse.
