I don't think the pricing of the Merc 4-strokes over a 2-stroke is that terrible. A 115 EFI 4-stroke is about $800 more than a 125 carbed 2-stroke. Then consider 2 more years warranty, plus another 2 till 4/15, better fuel efficiency, quieter, smoke free operation, and only about 40 pounds heavier. Kinda makes up my mind.

However, 2 strokes are also very reliable. No way the "500 hour and it's shot" statement is accurate. Like everything else you own. You take care of it, and it should last a long time. Abuse it, don't maintain it, it will suffer premature death.

Zach, Are you looking for a kicker, or main motor? Some of the Merc 4-strokes actually use Yamaha powerheads. Not sure if all do this year or not.
