I would highly suggest the red rope lighting. I installed some of the white rope lights on my first boat using clips that were screwed into the floor. It lit everything up very well...so much so that it completely killed the night vision of anyone in the boat and of any boat that got too close. It was nice for finding stuff on the floor or re-tying but beyond that it was pretty useless. The red lighting would have been a much better idea. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess. A buddy of mine has LED lights installed throughout his boat and they are great. They are plenty bright and don't kill your night vision at all. I believe that he had them professionally installed when he had his boat rigged but I can't imagine that they would be too tough to put in as long as you can find the right lights. Good luck with whatever route you decide to take...I really miss having a boat to play around with.
