actually, until now, I've only checked the fill hose and vent connections by the gunnel. I checked the connections to the tank itself and from the tank hose to the adapter through the rear deck to the hose with primer bulb that goes to the motor. The connections seem good and tight, and I don't think the smell is coming from around those connections. How much room around the perimeter of the tank is there for the screws that go through the brackets and down into the tank? Is the piece in the center for the fuel gauge? I don't know how I'd check it for a complete seal.

The odor makes it into every compartment or like Shep stated, it starts in each. I've had to open them too, but I'm sure hoping I don't have to tolerate it any longer.
