Subject: Battery Charging Question

So I have noticed that when I am charging my trolling motor battery, it only gets about 3/4 of a charge. It's about a year and a half old, but I haven't done any work to it (filling etc). Should I check to see if it needs more water in it, and if so, will it have a negative effect since it's been like that for a couple of months? If I do have to put distilled water in there, is there anything I need to look for when filling it? Can you overfill it? I'm a putz when it comes to stuff like that. Ususally I just get a new battery, but I figure, why not learn to maintain them.

Also, if I fill it with water, do I have to recharge the battery for a while, or since it's fully charged (as full as it will get right now) will it just take a short time after I fill it with water.

Thanks guys.
