I would recommend going with want your wallet tells you. I'm not an expert. I have a 1750 Crestliner with a Minn Kota 74lb Maxxum Hand control. I talked to the dealer who installed it and recommended nothing less then 74lbs. due to the weight and size of the boat. Hand control or foot it's all up to you. Personally I love the control I have with hand control. I added extenion handles for greater flexability too. Minn Kota offer these and you can cut them down to what size you need.
