I've only had two varieties of Minn Kota and so no experience with other brand. I now have a 55# Maxxum Transom on my little 14' alum and I really like it. (I have an extension handle so I can use the motor while standing and casting. Foot control would be lots better, but I couldn't afford that.) I can get a wake out of that motor and it seems to very efficient, i.e., it doesn't draw lots of power from the battery. Last, the "mother board" burned out a months after I bought the motor and Minn Kota had me take it to nearest repair shop. I had the motor back in 4 days and Minn Kota sent the check directly to the repair dude.
