John I have always thought and heard the same thing!! It's the 10 amp kick that kills batteries not the trickle charge and the constant up and down with a fast bring back(quick charge)is what kills batteries! IF you fish alot and can offord the biggest and best batteries you should have no problem using a trickle charge every night and you should have 100% full charge everymorning. I know I do I use Interstate Batteries and use a 24v 74lb thrust minn kota autopilot and it has ran flawlessly with these batteries for 4 years charging this way all day every day! Also one more helpfull hint if your batteries aren't holding a long charge, CHECK THE ACID LEVEL!!!
