steve,i'm new here,i see you posted this awhile ago,but i do have some input,i used a garmin 12 in canada last year and liked it alot,i own a magellan 315m,which is the same as a magellan 315 but is downloaded with marine info,it also has mapping capabilities.the garmin 12 and magellan 315 are basic units and are made for hunters and fisherman,as you go up in price,more features are in them,it depends what you want to use it for,e-mail me if you have more questions,[email protected][:)]
