By far the easiest GPS I have ever run is the Raytheon 420 chartplotter. You can get the Navionics cards for it which are really nice. I don't know about the Lowrance, but you can zoom into 1/8 - 1/4 mi. without losing map resolution depending on the area. Port areas are 1/8 mi. most everywhere else is 1/4mi.
