I have the old style on my tuffy esox mag for sale and it only has 48lbs of thrust 24v. but it is more than adequate for that boat BUT the mag does not catch alot of wind either because its so low to the water. If the ranger sits low and doesn't have high sides I would think you would be fine with the 54 thrust. Also I have not had any problems with mine breaking down or the autopilot going wacky and it's been on the boat since new.
