Scuff the back side of the diamond plate w/coarse sandpaper & use contact cement to fasten the carpet overall. The glue &/or the carpet backing will eventually give out, so I'd run a couple of small screws or rivets in critcial locations to prevent "catastrophic fly-off!"

I know that diamond plate is available as thin as .100, which makes it light & easy to fab.
