Location: Greenfield, WI | A great way to start is go to a vendor that has a large number of GPS options. The salesmen tend to play with them all and can talk features and user friendliness of each. Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Reed's, Bass Pro are all options.
This is just the start. After you narrow down your preferences, then you can seekout people that have used them in the wild.
A friend had very good sucess with a Garmin V, unit. It is relatively small about 2.5" x 6" x 0.75", and was able to be tied into his computer to download and back-up information.
