Although the size of 4 stroke outboards is getting smaller than the first one's to come out, you still need extra space for things like an oil sump (oil in crankcase), cam shaft, oil filter, oil filler, etc. 2 strokes don't have these items. Yamaha and Suzuki have done a great job on decreasing the size and weight of there 4 strokes.
