I just wanted to pass something on to everyone. A lot of you already know this, but some of you may not.

If you have a 24 volt system in your boat (2 12 volt batteries in series. Positive on battery 1 is connected to Negative on battery 2), you do not need to remove the wire that connects the two batteries when you charge them.

I have been confused about this since the first day I set up my 24v system. I finally e-mailed guest, and Bill Darden (battery guru) to ask them about this.

Here is the response from Guest:
Scott,
You do not need to remove the jumper wire as the charger has independent
grounds and will not see the connection between the batteries.
Regards,
Sue D.

Here is the response from Bill Darden:
It depends on the charger. If the charger has a 24-volt output (two leads) or two independent 12-volt outputs (four leads), then the answer is no you will not have to disconnect the series connection between the two batteries. If your charger has two 12-volt outputs with a common negative lead (three leads), then yes you will need to split the batteries. If your charger has one 12-volt output (two leads) you will need to connect it to one of the batteries, charge it, and then to the other, but you do not need to disconnect the series connection between the two batteries.

Kindest regards,

BiLL.......
