I bought the then, new, 1980 F150. Brand new design, and I kept it 16 years, and 256,000 miles. In 1996, I bought the then, new, 97 F150. 7 years and 142,000 miles later, I'm still very happy with it, and have had zero problems. Both these trucks were new technology. I never hesitated to buy new stuff. I'd buy one of the new slick F150's this year if mine wasn't still a nice truck.

Yup, the DFI's had a few problems when they came out. But the problem motors were in the vast minority. I know lots of guys who have 99-01 Opti's with a ton of hours on them, and no problems. I personally know only 2 people that had them and had problems. While new products sometimes have bugs, it ain't even close to the problems software companies spew out as finished product.
