I've got a 75 Mariner tiller, and there is a plasic wing nut on the side away from the throttle with a rod running through it. I can tighten the wing nut so that the motor won't move from side to side, or I can loosen it to make steering easier. There should be a tension device on your motor somewhere. Call the dealer that you bought it from if you can't find it. I know Mercs and Mariners have them, I don't know why every other manufacturer wouldn't have one.
