Telling folks to stay away from the Opti is like telling them to stay away from anything 'new'...I have LOTS of hours on mine with no problems at all, as do quite a few of my associates. Over the years, I have seen EFI, Black Max, Ficht, HPDI, and all branded 4 strokes with blown powerheads; that is why the motor carries a warranty!

The problems I have seen at the dealerships were dealt with by a product recall by Mercury, and were ECM ( brain box) and fuel rail related, causing fouling and carbon build-up, and related problems.

The 200 and 225 should be fine, and reflect Mercury's quality committment with a solid warranty.
