I always use one too. Mine cradles the tops of the lower unit and then goes to a pin on the trailer and is secured with a clevis. I saw a really simple new one that works on motors that have the two pins exposed with the tilt/trim that is a real strong foam rubber product that just slips on one of the pins and then all you do is lower the motor on it. It beats a block of wood.
